What Is A Home Sleep Apnea Test (HST)?
A home sleep apnea test (HST) is a diagnostic test used to diagnose sleep apnea; it can't diagnose other sleep disorders. A clinical evaluation with a Sleep Insights provider will determine whether an HST may be an appropriate test for you. It's a self-administered test done at home that:
- records your breathing efforts while you sleep, using sensors near your nose and an elastic belt gently secured around your chest
- monitors your blood oxygen levels and pulse, using a sensor on your fingertip
- is quick and easy to set up; one of our healthcare professionals will demonstrate the placement of the belts and sensors before you leave our office, and our staff is just a phone call away if you have any questions
- is picked up at one of our office locations and returned to the same location the day after the test
Several parts of the HST unit that come into direct contact with the patient (e.g. the cannula/sensor around the nose and mouth) are disposable, one-time use only items. Any reusable parts (e.g. belt, oximeter, the HST unit) are thoroughly disinfected between uses.
Returning the HST
Once you're done with your overnight home sleep test, please return the HST device the following day to the location from which you picked it up.
During regular business hours, call the office that dispensed the HST.
After business hours, call 585.385.6070 #4.
If there's no answer, the sleep technician may be with a patient. Please leave a voicemail.
Calls are typically returned within 20 minutes.
