What's A Home Sleep Apnea Test (HST)?
An HST is easy, convenient, and done at home. Unlike an overnight sleep study, which provides a more thorough assessment of sleep issues, an HST is used to diagnose only sleep apnea. It records your breathing, blood oxygen levels and breathing effort.
It can either be picked up from one of our locations or mailed to you.
Any reusable parts like the belt, oximeter, and HST unit are thoroughly disinfected between uses. Several parts of the HST unit that come into direct contact with the patient (such as the cannula/sensor around the nose and mouth) are disposable, one-time use only items.
If you have acrylic, dip or applied (“fake”) nails an index fingernail needs to be removed for the oxygen reading. If you have gel nail polish, the polish from one of the index fingers will need to be removed. Regular nail polish is fine. The oximeter does not read through acrylic or applied nails, nor gel polish.
Getting the HST
Prior to receiving the HST unit, you’ll need to review, sign and send us the HST Packet:
You may be asked to review or fill out only one or two specific documents instead of the packet:
Returning the HST
Once done with your overnight home sleep test, the HST unit should be returned the following day to the location from which you picked it up. If it was mailed to you, send it back in the pre-paid envelope provided.
We have HST unit drop boxes at our Rochester, Olean, Orchard Park, North Buffalo and Niagara Falls locations.
During regular business hours, call the office that dispensed your HST.
After business hours, call (585) 385.6070 #4.
If there’s no answer, the sleep technician may be with a patient. Please leave a voicemail.
